R. Michael Jones

Director and Co-Founder

Michael is a professional engineer, University of Toronto, 1985. He has an over 40-year career in company founding and taking them public up to $1 billion in market capitalisation. He founded a company in a university alliance that developed technology using platinum group elements, filed patents and formed alliances, and that technology is now in commercialisation.

Jamie Tosh

Director

Jamie is an accomplished project manager and operations executive with 20+ years' experience and has held senior management positions across the UK, Australia, Africa, and Canada, playing a pivotal role in the foundation, restructuring, and operational management of private and publicly listed companies. Jamie holds a Diploma in Corporate Governance.

Dr Douglas E. Wolfe

Principal Investigator — Domain I · Materials Science

Dr Douglas E. Wolfe is a recognised international expert in the field of materials science whose research activities include the synthesis, processing, and characterisation of nano, multilayered, nanostructured, functionally graded, ceramic, and metallic coatings, materials and systems deposited by reactive and ion beam assisted, electron beam physical vapour deposition (EB-PVD), cold spray, thermal spray technologies, chemical vapour deposition (CVD), cathodic arc physical vapour deposition, sputtering (r.f., d.c., magnetron), plating (Ni, Cu, Pt), hybrid processes, and various other PVD processes.

Present work includes the enhancement of coating microstructure and composition to enhance the sensitivity of ionising radiation such as x-rays and to tailor and improve material properties such as optical materials and coatings, hypersonics, metamaterials, thermal barrier coatings (TBC), erosion resistant coatings, wear resistant, corrosion resistant, diamond-like carbon, transition metal nitrides, carbides, and borides, and transition and rare-earth metal oxides for a variety of applications in the aerospace, nuclear, tooling, power, oil and gas, biomedical, and defence industries.

Wolfe's primary area of expertise includes structure-processing-property-performance relationships and the development and processing of monolithic, nanocomposite, nanolayered, and multilayer coatings, nano-grained structural materials, as well as materials characterisation using a variety of materials analytical techniques. Professor Wolfe's research focuses on applied research with an emphasis on implementation, transitioning and commercialisation and has resulted in over $400,000,000 in documented savings for the U.S. Department of War. Wolfe has been PI or Co-PI on more than 200 programmes at a total funding of over $180,000,000.

Dr Joan M. Redwing

Principal Investigator — Domain II · Materials Science & Engineering

Distinguished Professor Joan M. Redwing received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After receiving her Ph.D., she was employed as a research engineer at Advanced Technology Materials, Inc. where she worked on the development of group III-nitride materials and devices. Dr Redwing joined the faculty of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State University in 2000. She holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Electrical Engineering and is a member of the Materials Research Institute.

She currently serves as Director of the 2D Crystal Consortium (2DCC), an NSF-funded Materials Innovation Platform national user facility. Dr Redwing's research interests are in the general area of electronic materials synthesis and characterisation with a specific emphasis on semiconductor thin film, nanowire and 2D materials synthesis by metalorganic chemical vapour deposition. She currently serves as vice president of the American Association for Crystal Growth, is an associate editor for the Journal of Crystal Growth and is the North American regional editor for the journal 2D Materials. She is a fellow of APS, MRS and AAAS and was a Fulbright Scholar to Sweden in 2016. She is a co-author on over 300 publications in refereed journals and holds 8 U.S. patents.
